Aspacia (Alice) Maria Alfieris 1910-1965

Aspacia (Alice) was born in Oakland, California on August 1, 1910, the fourth child of John and Maria Alfieris.  She attended school in Oakland until the 8th grade.  During her childhood, she exhibited a jovial, bright, upbeat personality, and it stayed bright most of her adult life.  She possessed multiple artistic talents.  She was an expert seamstress, designing and creating all kinds of attire, wedding dresses, toys, household and Christmas decorations, ring-bearer pillows, and so much more.

She married Harry Golfes in 1928 when she was 18.  Harry had immigrated to Oakland from Greece.  They remained married all their lives.1934Alice&Family She and Harry had had two children, John (1931-2000), and Argery (1929-)

Harry operated a barbershop on E. 12th Street in Oakland.  Most of the males of the Alfieris family had their haircuts in that shop which was filled with a heavy scent of hair oil and shaving cream.  Harry supported his family through this business.  Alice never worked outside the home.  But she was extremely active  in events and organizations within the Greek church community and enjoyed a rich social life.
